Introduction
Frame connects BIM model data to Microsoft Power BI so project teams can build construction dashboards without rebuilding exports for every model update. Use Frame to prepare Revit, IFC, Navisworks, and Autodesk Construction Cloud data for Power BI templates, model-aware reports, and recurring project analytics.
If you are evaluating the product experience, start with the Power BI construction dashboard feature page. This integration guide focuses on the data workflow.
Upload Models to Frame
- Sign in to Frame and open the project you want to analyze.
- Upload models from local storage or connect Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
projects under
Add from local or Add from ACCin the Frame dashboard. - Confirm the upload. Frame secures the source files while it prepares the data for analytics.
Wait for Translation to Finish
Frame needs to translate each model before reporting is available. Translation time depends on file type and complexity. Monitor progress in the Frame dashboard; once complete, the data becomes available to Power BI templates and datasets.
Create Frame Reports
- After translation, open the projects
Reportsarea. - Choose the Power BI report template that matches your model type:
Local modeltemplates for Revit, Navisworks, IFC, or ZIP uploads.ACCtemplates that combine synced models, issues, and metadata from Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Configure any filters or mappings Frame requests. Frame generates the dataset and packages the Power BI report files for each configuration.
Revit and ACC Data in Power BI
Frame structures model data before it reaches Power BI. That means your reports can use fields that matter to construction and BIM teams:
- Revit categories, families, types, levels, and element properties
- IFC classifications, building storeys, and object metadata
- Navisworks and coordination data for review workflows
- Autodesk Construction Cloud project and model context
- Prepared tables for quantities, model health, assets, issues, and report refreshes
Download Reports into Power BI Desktop
- From the report list, select
Download Power BI. - Save the
.pbixpackage locally and open it with Power BI Desktop. - The report contains pre-modeled tables, visuals, and connections back to Frame’s refresh endpoint.
For teams building repeatable reporting standards, Frame also provides Power BI dashboard templates for BIM data.
Share and Publish Power BI Reports
With the .pbix file open in Power BI Desktop, you can:
- Review and adapt visuals or add new pages to highlight project KPIs.
- Share the report directly with teammates or publish to the Power BI Service.
- Schedule refreshes using the Frame-provided data source so updates reflect the latest model translation.
By following this workflow, every translated Frame model can power rich dashboards and executive reporting inside Power BI.
