Local Models

Translate locally saved RVT, NWD, IFC, or ZIP archives into Frame so teams can collaborate with AI and reporting tools.

Data Connectivity Updated Sep 15, 2025

Introduction

Use the Local Models workflow when project data lives outside Autodesk Construction Cloud. Frame accepts Revit (.rvt), Navisworks (.nwd), Industry Foundation Classes (.ifc), and zipped model bundles (.zip), then translates them into the same performant viewer used across the platform.

Upload Your Local Model

  1. Sign in to Frame and open the project where you want to host the model.
  2. Click Add Model and choose Upload from device.
  3. Select the local file. For multi-file packages, place them in a .zip archive before uploading.
  4. Confirm the upload. Frame stores the package securely while translation is in progress.

Monitor Translation Progress

Large or complex models can take time to translate. Track the status from the project dashboard; Frame displays progress indicators and notifies you when the viewer is ready. You can continue working elsewhere in Frame while the translation completes.

Explore the Translated Model

Once the translation finishes, open the model directly in Frame to:

  • Navigate the 3D scene with full filtering and sectioning tools.
  • Create markups or collaborate through AI Chat for quick insights.
  • Generate Power BI datasets or open the model in the Excel add-in to build custom sheets.

How Frame Handles Original Files

Original design files remain transient. After translation completes, Frame retains only the derived visualization and property datasets needed for collaboration. The uploaded source files are not kept by the web app, preserving your control over the original design assets.
