Setting Up Autodesk Integration with Frame

Unlocking the Full Potential of Frame with Autodesk Integration

To maximize your experience with Frame, setting up proper integration with your Autodesk Platform Services (APS) credentials is essential. This seamless connection allows for real-time data synchronization, model updates, and advanced analytics capabilities that truly transform your BIM workflow.

Prerequisites

Before beginning, ensure you have:

  • An active Frame account (Professional or Enterprise tier)
  • An Autodesk account with access to APS (formerly Forge)
  • Admin rights to your Autodesk account
  • Your BIM 360/ACC projects set up and accessible

Setting Up Your Autodesk Developer Account

Step 1: Register as an Autodesk Developer

  1. Visit the Autodesk Developer Portal
  2. Click “Sign Up” or login with your existing Autodesk credentials
  3. Complete the developer account registration process
  4. Verify your email address when prompted

Step 2: Create a New App in the Developer Portal

  1. Navigate to “My Apps” in your developer dashboard
  2. Click “Create App”
  3. Select “App for internal use only” as your app type
  4. Provide the following details:
    • App Name: “Frame BIM Integration” (or your preferred name)
    • App Description: “Integration between Frame and Autodesk services”
  • Select the following APIs (or select all if you are in a rush):
    • Data Management API
    • Model Derivative API
    • BIM 360 API
    • ACC API (if using Autodesk Construction Cloud)
  1. Accept the Terms of Service and click “Create App”

Step 3: Get Your API Credentials

After creating your app, you’ll receive:

  • Client ID
  • Client Secret

Keep these credentials secure as you’ll need them for the next steps.

Configuring Frame with Your Autodesk Credentials

Access Your Frame Settings

  1. Log in to your Frame account
  2. Click on Set APS Credentials in the main Dashboard
  3. Copy and Paste your crendentials from Autodesk.
  4. Click Save

Verifying Your Integration

To ensure your integration is working properly:

  1. Navigate to your Frame dashboard
  2. Click “Actions” > “Add from computer”
  3. Select a project and model to import
  4. The import process will begin, and you’ll see the model in the Dashboard.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Authentication Failures

If you encounter “Invalid Credentials” errors:

  • Double-check your Client ID and Client Secret for typos
  • Ensure your Autodesk Developer account is active
  • Verify that your app has the required API permissions

Access Permission Issues

If you can’t see your BIM 360/ACC projects:

  • Verify you have proper access rights in BIM 360/ACC
  • Ensure you’ve authorized the correct Autodesk account
  • Check if your admin needs to approve the integration

Model Import Problems

If models fail to import:

  • Confirm the file format is supported (.rvt, .rfa, .dwg, .ifc)
  • Check if the file size is within limits (under 250MB for optimal performance)
  • Ensure your model is properly published in BIM 360/ACC

Best Practices for Autodesk Integration

  • Regular Synchronization: Schedule weekly synchronizations to keep your Frame data current
  • Permissions Management: Assign appropriate access levels to team members in both systems
  • Version Control: Label versions clearly in Autodesk before importing to Frame
  • Selective Importing: Only import models you need for analysis to maintain performance
